Torrent Power pips Reliance to emerge as lowest bidder for Indian power supply contract: Sources
Torrent Power has outbid Reliance Industries to supply 1,100 MW of gas-based power to the Indian government to meet its anticipated high demand this summer. The Gujarat-based firm quoted INR13.7 ($0.19) per unit for supply of 770 MW, while Uttarakhand's Gama Infraprop quoted INR14.9 and RIL offered a price of INR20.5 per unit for the supply of 1,010 MW. The contracts have not yet been awarded, but an official source says that Torrent Power is likely to get the contracts. India expects its demand to peak at 230 GW this year and is working to avert power cuts.
